What’s the best CTA on Instagram?

When there’s no clicks, what’s the point?

The best call-to-action (CTA) on Instagram, is not the same as the best CTA on Facebook or LinkedIn.

On those platforms, people are often in a task-oriented mindset, clicking through to read, watch, or sign up feels normal.

But on Instagram, it’s different. People are there to scroll, be inspired, or zone out. They tend to stay in the app, and they’re much less likely to follow a link elsewhere.

That matters, because Instagram doesn’t support clickable links in post captions.

And based on our data, very few users will copy and paste a raw URL into their browser, no matter how compelling your offer. Even “link in bio” gets low follow-through.

So what should you do instead?

If you want to share a link, these are your best options:

  • In your bio: Edit your profile and paste a URL into the “Website” field
  • In stories: Use the Link Sticker to add a tappable link
  • With link tools: Use services like Linktree or Beacons to share multiple destinations via your bio
  • In ads: If you’re running sponsored content through a business account, you can include clickable links directly

But honestly, we suggest shifting your CTA altogether.

The most effective Instagram CTAs are those that don’t require leaving the app:

  • “Save this for later”
  • “Tag someone who needs this”
  • “Which one are you – A or B?”
  • “DM us and we’ll send you the link”

Instagram isn’t built for click-through. It’s built for curiosity, connection, and quick responses. Treat it like a conversation, not a landing page.
