Zoom is a good tool to use for podcast recordings, if you don’t want to add another subscription to your ever growing list.
Here is how to set up your Zoom to get the best possible recordings.
1) Enable separate audio files
To set up Zoom to record separate audio files for each participant:
- open the Zoom desktop app (download here if you don’t have it already)
- Go to Settings > Recording
- Check the box for “Record a separate audio file for each participant” under Local Recording,
Then start your meeting and click Record (you’ll only have to do steps 1-3 above once).
After the meeting, you’ll find individual audio and videos tracks in a dedicated folder within your main Zoom recordings folder for easy post-production editing.
These are the files we will use for editing your podcast. Please send them through after each recording.
2) Optimise for third-party video editors
In the above settings, we also recommend that you turn on the “Optimize for third-party video editors” setting. This will increase the quality and compatibility of your files.
3) Send us the files & note any edits
Once you’ve recorded, we recommend that you download and send us the files as soon as possible, so we can start working our magic on your podcast episode.
If you have any specific edits, please let us know when you send through the files.
