TikTok: NO Dancing Required

How your business can use TikTok

A question I get asked pretty frequently is, “Which social media platforms does my business need to be on?” And I think the best answer is: it depends on your business, don’t just blindly follow the fads as it may not be worth it.

For example, right now TikTok is HUGE! It has over 1 billion monthly users and that number is rising steadily.

You may be tempted to jump on the TikTok bandwagon and use it as part of your marketing strategy, but in fact the truth is your time may be better spent elsewhere.

So, if you’ve done your homework, and figured out that TikTok is the place your business needs to be, here is my quick guide on how to make it work for you.

And no, you don’t have to learn any viral dances (unless you want to)…

TikTok? Is that the Arnott’s biscuits? Or the song?

If you have been out of the game for a while, you may have thought that those tasty clock biscuits had made a roaring comeback.

Or that Ke$ha was back on the charts again.

But no, TikTok is an app for sharing videos. And the influence of TikTok is extremely far reaching – it can make or break a new song release, it can help products fly off the shelves worldwide, and it can explain a new coffee trend being offered at your local.

Despite the tsunami or early videos, TikTok isn’t just an app for dance challenges anymore.

In fact, according to TikTok, 47% of TikTok users say they bought something they saw on the app. Want proof? Google #TikTokMadeMeBuyIt.

With widespread cultural influence, rising user numbers, and massive commerce activity, it may be time to get your business on board.

Time to TikTok

TikTok may seem intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. Here are some alternative video ideas I have for you, if you want to steer clear of dancing content:

  • Introduce yourself

Tell your story! Why did you start your business? Who’s part of your team? Share a bit about yourself and your journey so your audience can connect with the real people behind the brand. Building that personal connection helps people relate to you and trust your business.

  • Share a behind the scenes look at your business

Give your audience a sneak peek into your daily operations. Take them on a quick tour of your workspace, office, or store. Highlight the tools or products you use every day, or show them the process of packaging orders. These behind-the-scenes glimpses create a sense of transparency and give people a deeper appreciation for what you do.

  • Showcase your product or service

What makes your product or service special? Highlight key features, demonstrate how it works, or explain why customers love it. You can also showcase your best sellers and what makes them so popular. Step-by-step demos or usage tips are a great way to highlight value and help people see your product in action.

  • Share a hack using your product or service

Got a creative way to use your product or service? Share it! For example, during Australia’s recent rainy season, #CleanTok exploded with tips on tackling mould. Show how your product solves a problem, or reveal unexpected or unique ways it can be used. People love discovering hacks that make their lives easier!

  • Share customer testimonials

Let your customers sing your praises! Share testimonials or reviews to build credibility and trust. Honest, real feedback resonates strongly on TikTok, where people often look for authentic recommendations before making purchases.

  • Answer common questions

People are visual learners so use short videos to address common questions. Show your audience how to use your product, explain your services, or even tackle some common misconceptions. Keep it straightforward and helpful—people will appreciate the clarity.

  • Engage with your audience

TikTok thrives on interaction. Reply to comments, ask questions, or even run polls in your videos to encourage engagement. The more you connect with your audience, the more invested they’ll feel in your brand.

  • Experiment and have fun

The beauty of TikTok is that it rewards creativity and experimentation. Don’t be afraid to try something new. Not every video will be a hit, but the more you explore and play with ideas, the better you’ll understand what resonates with your audience.

Remember, TikTok is a platform built on authenticity. The most important thing is to show up as yourself and let your passion for your business shine. So, whether you’re sharing behind-the-scenes snippets, answering FAQs, or jumping on a trend, the key is to have fun and connect with your audience in a way that feels natural to you.

Now that you know that there is no dancing required, what are you waiting for? It’s time to TikTok!
