The true value of outsourcing your marketing

(time is money!)

When you’re a small business, your time is extremely precious. So, it is important to recognise that and start assigning your time the true value it deserves.

If you don’t, you could be hindering and holding your business back from its true potential.

Many small businesses, especially those that have started out as solo-preneurs, don’t fully consider the cost of wasted time.

And when discussing marketing, I often hear: “I can’t afford to hire or outsource”.

But in these situations, I suggest that businesses need to consider the true cost of keeping your marketing in-house.

Because, when considering the cost of outsourcing your marketing, versus keeping it in-house, quite often you aren’t comparing apples with apples.

Most people vastly underestimate the true cost of doing it all themselves. The main reason? Business owners often forget to consider the value of their own time.

And this can be an expensive mistake to make.

The cost of in-house marketing: your time and brain space

When business owners think of the cost of marketing, they often forget the extended work days and weekends that they are doing to just keep on top of all their current tasks.

Not to mention that they overlook the amount of time it takes to research and get up to speed on specialty tasks that they don’t do often.

Mastering any skill takes time and experience. Unless it is something that you would get a lot of joy out of mastering, quite often the learning curve is simply too steep or too long for many business owners to undertake.

You are better to delegate a task to someone who has already gone through the marketing learning curve, and has invested the time mastering the skills and has the experience that you need to grow your business.

The benefit of outsourced marketing: freedom and results

The main reason to outsource your marketing is to save you time. By avoiding hours struggling through your marketing strategy, means that you now have more time to focus on the parts of your business that only you can do.

You are more free to focus on the tasks that help build your business, like looking after clients and growing your revenue.

Plus, when you outsource your marketing, you don’t just outsource the task itself, but you also outsource the mental space too.

Through outsourcing, you can be safe in the knowledge that when things get busy for you at work, your marketing is still being done behind the scenes.

Reducing the stress and the guilt of not giving your marketing the time it truly deserves is priceless.

So often, when I speak to my clients, I hear that they have been so busy doing X that they haven’t given any thought to their marketing. And, seeing the sense of relief that comes from hearing my updates on what has been done and what has been achieved since our last meeting is just wonderful.

So, are you wasting time?

It’s worth taking a moment to think about your own business.

Are you using your time at work as effectively as you should? When you factor in the true value of your time, how much does it really cost to do all your marketing in house?

More importantly, are there opportunities to reclaim some of that lost time by outsourcing your marketing?
