If you work in a professional services business, social media often sits in the “I’ll get to it” pile. You know you should be posting stuff, but coming up with the ideas is the mentally taxing part. And who has the time to stare at a blank caption box, waiting for a spark of inspiration to arrive?
The good news is, we Crispies don’t think you don’t need better ideas… we think you’re sitting on a treasure trove of GOLDEN content, you just need to know where to look.
If you’re looking for a long list of social media content to build your online momentum, we suggest you start with these five places:
1. Common conversations from client meetings
Your last 10–20 client meetings are basically a content brainstorm you forgot to write down. You are regularly solving problems, answering questions and simplifying complex concepts for your clients, and it’s highly likely that your social media audience has the same problems, questions and confusion.
If you’ve explained it more than once, it’s already earned a place on your socials.
2. Misconceptions you address in sales conversations
People turn up to all of our businesses with some common, but incorrect assumptions or beliefs.
Dispelling myths is a rich vein of high-quality social media content, and every time you say “that’s not quite how it works”, you’ve just found yourself a post.
3. Do a diary audit
People love knowing what’s happening behind the scenes in your business. You’re doing noteworthy things every week, but you just probably haven’t built the habit of documenting these for your social media.
A quick scroll through your calendars can remind you that you’re far more interesting than you think.
4. Share client stories
People love stories! So if you don’t think your ideas are interesting enough (although we respectfully disagree), focus on telling the stories of your clients instead. We recommend deploying the ‘SCARF’ structure of a great story:
- Situation (where were they at before they worked with you?)
- Challenge (what was the essence of their struggle?)
- Action (what did you do to help them? This is where the gold lies)
- Result (how did it practically make their life better? This is the ‘after’ to their ‘before’)
- Feeling (how did it make them feel better? This is also a great place to share their Google review, if you have one)
5. Social media should be a team sport
The businesses we work with that are crushing their socials don’t put all the pressure on one person to produce the goods – they make it everyone’s responsibility to contribute.
Each of your team members has their own ideas and unique experiences to bring to the table, so perhaps your next social media move is to start tapping into the heads or hearts of the people you work with.
The real shift
Most professional services businesses don’t have a content problem, they have a noticing problem. And once you start paying attention to the great, interesting and life-changing work you’re already doing, posting starts to feel a heck of a lot easier.
